January 26th is National Peanut Brittle Day, but if that holiday’s creators had tasted this salty-sweet delectable they might have opted for a month. What makes this brittle so special? For starters, Maine’s Bixby Chocolate teamed up with a Pine Tree State brewer to add a splash of Belgian-style Allagash White beer, bringing a perfect hint of malt and hops. There’s also a savory sprinkling of Maine Sea Salt, but more often than not brittle quality comes down to peanut choice. Bixby uses a small white legume, which brings a roasted, creamy flavor to this crunchy treat. And that is a reason to celebrate.
